Before I go on and on and on about all things cake, I should start at the beginning. I was living the life slinging engine fluids as an oil monkey, living above a wonderful bakery owned and operated by Mia P. I made it my mission to bother Mia and her employees as much as possible, I got 2-3 cups of coffee a day and inconspicuously dropped hints like, "Cakes huh, that seems fun”, "You know I like cake right?", "I bake at home aaallll the time", "HIRE ME PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!”, "I'LL WORK FOR FREE!!!". She figured that maybe just maybe she could pry me away from the fast track at Jiffy Lube and I was hired!! I then proceeded to get my start day wrong and slept through my first midnight to eight am shift. When I started out at the bakery I was the night shift baker and was horrible for a good month, I finally caught on and was able to start training with her in cake decorating. She taught me all the technique I know, I was able to slowly add in my artistic touches and found my calling. I remember as a little girl hanging out at the bakery with my Grandpa , looking at the decorators working on cakes, saying I want to do that when I grow up!! Mia took a chance on a lady who drinks way too much coffee and had no commercial baking experience. It was the start of me doing something I love, something I'm good at, and something that brings joy and happiness to the people who receive my goods (until they jump on the scale that is). Pictured above is Mia working on an amazing 6 layer wedding dress inspired cake.
